Steinhauser in the top 10 on his Rome debut

For the first time, Rome hosted the Triathlon World Cup: Verena Steinhauser made it into the top 10.

The woman from Brixen finished the race over the sprint distance as the best Azzurra with a time of 59.54 minutes in 7th place, 33 seconds behind the victorious Nina Eim from Germany. Marlene Gomez-Göggel secured the German double victory (+5 seconds), the Swiss Cathia Schär completed the podium (+9).

Steinhauser completed the 750 meter swim in 10.20 minutes. After the swim, she was in 16th place. The 20-year-old needed 28 minutes for the 31.25-kilometer bike course, achieving the tenth best time, and in the 5-kilometer run she impressed with the sixth-best time of 16.24 minutes.

For Steinhauser, the competition in Rome was the penultimate one of the season. The reigning Italian sprint champion still has the World Cup in Brazil on the agenda in a week.
