Verena Steinhauser shows at the European Games

South Tyrol's Iron Lady, Verena Steinhauser, narrowly missed out on a medal at the European Games in Poland.

Steinhauser finished seventh in the elite triathlete race on Tuesday. After 1,5 km of swimming, 40 km of cycling and a 10 km run, the woman from Brixen reached the finish line in 1:57.30 hours. Steinhauser was only 13 seconds short of the bronze medal, which the Belgian Jolien Vermeylen took. Norwegian Solveig Lovseth (1:57.05) won gold ahead of Austrian Julia Hauser.

Steinhauser came out of the water in 14th place and fought his way up to fourth place on the bike course. On the running route, Steinhauser initially pressed hard on the accelerator and was still on course for a medal at the halfway mark. She then had to pay some tribute to the high pace and fell back to seventh place. This made her the best Azzurra at the same time.
