Italy's volleyball players as good as ever at the Olympics

The Italian Olympic participants are aiming for medals in both the men's and women's volleyball. The Azzurre advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday with a fantastic performance against the world champions.

Just one day after the incredible comeback and quarter-final victory of Simone Giannelli and Co. against Japan Italy's volleyball players have also secured their ticket for the penultimate round – for the first time ever in Olympic history.

The Azzurre put in an absolutely brilliant performance in the quarter-finals, beating their long-time rivals and world champions from Serbia 3-0. They were in control in all three sets. The result? Three relatively clear set results of 26:24, 25:20 and 25:20.

Now the Italians are within touching distance of a medal. With a win on Thursday (20 p.m.) against Turkey, they can move into the gold final; if they lose, the final bronze match awaits.
