Sensational Azzurre: Italy plays for gold

After the bitter exit of Simone Giannelli and Co. in the semifinals of the Olympic volleyball tournament, the women did better on Thursday evening. They defeated Turkey and moved into the final.

On Tuesday, the Azzurre celebrated when they reached the semifinals at the Olympics for the first time in history. On Thursday, the Italians were in a celebratory mood again, as they also won their semifinal and are now playing for the gold medal - and with a convincing performance. Against Turkey, Egonu and Co. only needed three sets (25:22, 25:19, 25:22) to win the semifinals.

After the brilliant performance in Quarter-final against world champions Serbia (3:0) was the next freestyle on Thursday. Led by the strong offensive player Paola Egonu, the Azzurre shone in their first Olympic semi-final, played their attacks cleanly to the end and impressed with the necessary toughness in defense, with Libera Monica Di Gennaro distinguishing herself several times with great saves.

Now the best Italian women's team of all time is playing against the USA for the gold medal. The North Americans won their semi-final match against Brazil by a narrow margin in 5 sets and are still on a mission to defend their title. The only thing standing between them and another tournament victory is the Azzurre.
