SURVEY | Will Giannelli fulfill South Tyrol’s medal hopes?

From South Tyrol's point of view, only Simone Giannelli will be represented at the Olympic Games in Paris. The Bozen native is in the semifinals with Italy's volleyball team. What happens next?

It couldn't be more thrilling: Italy already had one foot on the plane in the quarter-final against Japan - for the flight home. Thanks in part to Simone Giannelli, the Azzurri turned a 0:2 set deficit plus a 21:24 in their favor. In total, Giannelli & Co. had to fend off four match points against Japan.

This means that Italy has won all four of its games in Paris. The young team will now face host France in the semi-finals on Wednesday at 20 p.m. There is actually no favorite in the round of the last four. This also applies to the first semi-final between Poland and the USA. SportNews would like to know from its readers how the Olympic tournament will end for Italy.

One thing is certain: With a win against France, Italy would at least be guaranteed the silver medal. If they lose, the Azzurri would then fight for bronze in the match for third place. But captain Giannelli and his team have only one dream - and that is Olympic gold.
