Verzotto narrowly misses the home win

At the weekend the renowned Diving Meeting Bolzano took place again in the Bozen Lido. A South Tyrolean local hero almost snatched victory.

Julian Verzotto was on his way to a home win at the Diving Meeting Bolzano on Sunday – but then came the final jump. Verzotto attempted a two and a half dolphin somersault, but botched it and had to settle for second place in the end.

The 22-year-old from Bolzano had already achieved 361 points in the qualification on Saturday. On Sunday evening in the final he again scored 363,85 points – a remarkable achievement. After 5 jumps he was still 3 points ahead of the Canadian Carson Paul, but then came the final mistake. In the end, the North American won with 394,20 points. Kay Torres Garcia from Bolzano, who competed for the Aqua Club Lima from Peru, ended up in last place in the four-man final.

In general, Canada and Italy have left their mark on the diving meeting in Bolzano. The maple leaves celebrated five victories and thus won half of all competitions. Margo Erlam and Aimee Wilson achieved 2 wins each, winning together in synchronized jumping. The Azzurri, on the other hand, were able to celebrate four medals. After Matteo Santoro (1 m) on Friday, Francesco Porco and Elisa Pizzini each won for Italy on the 3 m board. Porco celebrated his second success in Bolzano in synchronized jumping from the 2m board alongside Matteo Cafiero.
