Marian Drescher has returned to impressive form in the single kayak in the U16 category after a shoulder injury at the beginning of the season: he is the Italian vice champion. His strongest competitor took part in the World Championships in the juniors and, as expected, won this year's championship. Marion Drescher will be competing in the juniors category for the first time next year, as will Sara Furlan. She is part of the promising girls' group of the SCM. At the end of the season, Sara Furlan shone on the Etsch and took bronze.
Stefan Senoner, coach of the SCM girls and boys, is very satisfied with the successful end of the season and the intensive training. "There is a good chance that next year, for the first time, five people from Merano will paddle for the national team." The "Magic Five" are Tamara Drescher (K1 in the U23 category), Annika Zoe Senoner (K1, Junior), Sara Furlan (K1, Junior), Marian Drescher (K1, Junior) and Lars Aaron Senoner (C1, Junior).
Annika Zoe Senoner won gold in her category in the national race, which took place at the same time as the Italian Championships in Verona. The youngest Merano athlete at this year's Italian Championships on the Adige is Jacopo Vicentini, who is only 14 years old.
Canoeing has a long tradition in Merano and is not just a sport for the young and wild. The many medals won by athletes over 35 years of age make the SCM one of the most successful clubs in Italy, and not just among young people. This also has to do with the good training opportunities on the Passer and Etsch rivers.
Hansjörg Mayr is synonymous with the Italian champion in the K1 Master G. The Merano veteran and participant in this year's World Championships also won gold this year. The title of Italian champion in the K1 went to Markus Hager (Master C). Gold also went to Lukas Mayr (Master A). He was the fastest of all the participating masters. In the same category, Christian Herz won bronze. In the women's category (Master B), Madeleine Rohrer can call herself Italian champion.
Stefan Senoner brings three Italian championship titles to Merano. He wins in the C1 category (the canoeist kneels in the boat) and K1 Master D (the canoeist sits in the boat) as well as in the team race (together with Herz and Hager).
