Runggatscher and Zavarko have shown often this year that they are great bowlers. Laura Runggatscher (Fugger Sterzing) in particular made people sit up and take notice on matchday 9. The previous Italian record (by Dagmar Wiedenhofer with 658 wood, editor's note) lasted for 15 years. “That was something special,” the Villnöss native looks back fondly. “I didn’t even know that I was on the way to setting a new record. It was clear to me that it would be a new track record in Nova Ponente. “I didn’t even think about the Italian record,” Runggatscher has to smile.

The Fugger Vipiteno player not only claimed first place in the cut list with 579,95 wood, but also improved the score from the previous season by almost 1 wood. After the 4/2021 season, Runggatscher had 22 pieces of wood. She is therefore satisfied with her personal performance: “There were a few really good games, especially the Italian record of course.”

In the end, their team Fugger Sterzing became – as expected – champions in the women's A class once again, even if Villnöß was close for a long time. “We worked hard in some games. But in sports it's like this: sometimes things just don't go as planned. In the end it worked out,” she says. For Runggatscher, the team world championship continues in May. “We have a very difficult group, but we will do everything we can to get ahead,” says the passionate bowler with determination.

Second place in the cut list went to another Villnösser who also plays for her hometown club. Nathalie Profanter also took silver place a year ago, with 2 wood. This time she has 555,10 wood, which shows why Villnöß didn't let up in the championship race for so long this year.

Third place is also occupied by the same player as a year ago: Gabriele Bürger from Fugger Sterzing took the last podium place with 3 wood.

Vilmos Zavarko bowls in a league of his own For the men, the race for the championship was far less exciting than for the women. KK Neumarkt, which dominates the A14 class with all its star players, won for the 1th time in a row. 3 of them are also in the top 3 places on the cutting list.

As always, one person couldn't be mistaken: Vilmos Zavarko was once again playing in a league of his own. With a cut of 676,38 wood, he improved his previous year's value of 667,73 wood and took victory in the cut list ranking. This result is not a big surprise for the Serb: after all, he is the reigning individual world champion and is aiming for a repeat title at the team World Cup with the Serbian team in May. It is not for nothing that he is considered the best bowler in the world.

His worst opponent in the cut list is his club teammate Tamàs Kiss, with whom he pushes himself to new top performances on every match day. Kiss – the Italo-Hungarian will bowl for the “Azzurri” for the first time at the team World Cup this year – was also able to improve on his performance from last year. He had 636,91 wood on record at the end of the 2021/22 season, this year it is 649,24 wood.

In third place this year is not the exceptional bowler from Fugger Sterzing, the North Tyrolean Reinhard Gruber, but rather the Neumarkt newcomer Erik Kuna. The World Cup individual runner-up from Slovakia brought an average of 3 wood to the South Tyrolean bowling alleys, while Gruber has to make do with fourth place this time with 646,20 wood.

The South Tyrolean U23 squad is convincing Last Sunday the international bowling youth cup took place in Hallein near Salzburg. Five teams took part in the tournament: Bavaria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Salzburg and South Tyrol.
