“Kurtatsch is a bowling village”

The bowling boom in Kurtatsch is unmistakable. From the A1 class to the regional league, the Unterlandlers are sending 5 teams to the championship this year: "The team in the regional league even consists of some women who, before Corona, only competed in recreational tournaments. But these tournaments no longer really exist, but the regional league does," reports Peer Pratzer. The 31-year-old is not only the captain, but also the figurehead of his team in the A1 class.

He regularly knocked down more than 600 pins last season, which earned him a place in the national team in May when they went to Brezno, Slovakia.

Our club is well integrated into village life. What is also striking about Kurtatsch is that, with one exception, only people from Kurtatsch play in the 5 teams. "One player comes from Steinegg, but he comes to us in Kurtatsch voluntarily," smiles Peer Pratzer. "Kurtatsch is a bowling village. We have a good influx of people, also because our club is well integrated into village life. Many young boys come from football to bowling. The atmosphere in our club is good. But it is also clear that this is not a sure-fire success," he says.

The good atmosphere and the growth can also be seen in the performance of the A1 team. Peer Pratzer and his teammates have taken third place twice in a row, which is pretty much the best possible result for a simple club in the highest Italian league. Because: "Nobody can displace Neumarkt from first place, they are 3 to 1 classes better than the rest. But they also have different opportunities than all the other clubs. And I think Fugger Sterzing is a class better than us. But we are getting closer and closer to their level. Second place may no longer be out of reach. But that will become clear over the course of the season," Peer Pratzer remains modest.

According to Peer Pratzer, the reason for his team's good performance is the depth of the squad: "We have 7 players in the A1 team, all of whom can deliver a solid performance. We rely on each other. If one player has a bad day, another one steps up and makes up for his mistakes. That's what makes us so strong," says Peer Pratzer, and you can also hear a bit of pride in his voice. He and his team have every right to be, after all, they have developed into a top team over the past 2 years.

Little change up front, exciting at the back. Third place is Kurtatsch's declared goal this season too. "But that will certainly not be easy. In my opinion the level has increased. As already mentioned, Neumarkt will be champions again, that is beyond question. Whether the Fuggers can be caught remains to be seen," he analyzes.

And what about the back? "It's extremely difficult to make predictions. If things aren't going well, things can quickly go backwards. The best example is Passeier, who in my opinion played below expectations last year and slipped into the relegation battle. In the end, they managed to stay in the league, but the same thing could happen to any other team. That's why it's difficult to talk about real relegation candidates," says the Kurtatsch captain.
