The balls are rolling again

The reigning champion Neumarkt immediately showed its claws and celebrated an 8-0 victory over Lana (3577:3239), in which Tamas Kiss stood out with 638 wood. It was the only clean sheet success at the start, which is why the Unterlanders immediately moved into first place in the table. Second in the table is also the same as the one at the end of the 2015/16 season, namely Fugger Sterzing. The Wipptalers won the derby against promoted team Ratschings 7:1 (3529:3200). Here Thomas Weiskopf took center stage with a yield of 621 wood.

The second promoted team, Naturns, won 7:1 at the start. The Vinschgers, where Florian Schlögl stood out from a compact team performance with 597 bowls, won away at Jenesien (3409:3316). This means that Naturns is third in the table after the first matchday, directly ahead of Sarnthein, which defeated “feared opponent” Schnals this time 6:2 (3332:3242) after the two narrow defeats last season. Here Hannes Kröss (Sarnthein) provided the best performance of the encounter with 589 woods.

St. Georgen also took two points from Kurtatsch. The “Jergina” started the new championship with a 6:2. The best players of the encounter were two bowlers from St. Georgen, Andreas Bodner and newcomer Alex Posch, who each hit 584 bowlers. Finally, there was a 5:3 home win in the derby against Burggräfler for last year's third-placed Passeier (3318:3305), in which Oswald Kofler (576) stood out.

Deutschnofen laughs from the top

Although they had to give up their best player, Dagmar Wiedenhofer, to league rivals Tirol Mutspitz, the bowlers from Deutschnofen celebrated a 6-0 win against Pfeffersberg at the start and beamed from the pitch in the sun for a week. The 5/1 championship began with 2016-17 successes for Meran (at home against Falzen), Fugger Sterzing (at home against Villnöß) and Tirol Mutspitz (in the new edition of the cup semi-final against Los Birillos). Burggräfler won the derby against Passeier 4:2, while Plose won 4,5:1,5 against Vöran Blecherne.

The top 6 of the week in the highest league of bowlers are Elisabeth Köhl (Deutschnofen/573), Maria Gufler (Meran/570), Helene Gasser (Burggräfler/590), Annemarie Prenn (Plose/519), Nathalie Profanter (Villnöß/575 ) and Gabi Gamper (Tirol Mutspitz/558).

The balls are rolling again

Last week the 2016/17 South Tyrolean bowling championship began with the first round. There were no major surprises - apart from the clear 7-1 away win by newcomers Naturns at Jenesien.
