Because the Summer Olympics are taking place in Paris and qualifying competitions are held in advance, World Cup stages are canceled - including those in Brixen.
After the successful premiere last year, the dedicated OK team in the South Tyrol Alpine Club around Ralf Preindl and Alexandra Ladurner went one better this year. For three days, the vertical in the cathedral city was bursting at the seams and turned into a cauldron with a stadium atmosphere. The Briton Toby Roberts and the American Natalia Grossman were each crowned deserving winners in front of over 2500 enthusiastic fans.
The climbing event in Brixen thrilled the crowds.
The perfect organization, the breathtaking atmosphere, top sporting performances and an appealing supporting program have sparked a real euphoria for climbing in Brixen. This did not go unnoticed by the representatives of the international climbing association ISFC, who gave the organizers an excellent certificate.
“The coming year is not a normal year with the Olympic Games.” Ralf Preindl, OK team
“Under normal circumstances, we would most likely be back on the calendar in 2024,” explains Ralf Preindl. “But the coming year is not a normal year with the Olympic Games and some stages had to be canceled because there are starting places for the games in the qualification the five rings. Since Brixen is one of the youngest venues - we stepped in for Moscow at short notice after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022 - it was to be expected that we would also be affected. Even if, of course, we had hope until the end that it wasn’t the case.”
The main goal: get back to the World Cup
The organizing committee already has plans for the medium-term future: “Our team is now working hard to ensure that we get a place in the World Cup calendar for 2025 to 2027. “That is our ultimate goal; a decision will be made in this regard in the summer of next year,” continued Preindl. “Brixen is a climbing town, and the World Cups in 2022 and this year have impressively underlined that. The municipality of Brixen supported this event with full commitment – and I personally will continue to be a big fan of the Brixen climbing events,” says the former mayor of Brixen, Peter Brunner.Edit Profile
