Completion of the Junior Cup in Meran

The last competition of the Junior Cup in climbing was the Boulder discipline. It was the seventh competition for the U12 to U20 categories and the third for the U10. The competitions started on Friday afternoon with the U12 boys category. Moritz Kuhn from AVS Bozen took his first win. The prizes in this category were distributed by AVS Vice President Elmar Knoll, also First Chairman of the Meran Section, together with the new AVS Managing Director Cristian Olivo. Lisa Kalser from AVS St. Pauls won the girls' U10; She won 2 of the 3 competitions held for her category. In the boys' category, the U10 victory went to Andreas Steinegger from AVS Tramin. He was the only athlete to climb all zones and all tops on the first attempt. The largest category of the Junior Cup took place on Saturday: 12 female climbers took part in the U56 category. Mara Raffl from AVS Passeier won and was able to celebrate her first victory in the Junior Cup. From the U14 category onwards, climbing is carried out in onsight mode. The athletes have 4 minutes to understand and climb the boulder; trainers are not allowed to give tips. In the U14 category, Sara Kofler from AVS Passeier mastered this best. She wins 4 tops and 5 zones all in the first attempt. Hannes Cagol from AVS St. Pauls achieved a debut victory in the boys category. The categories U16 to U20 started on Sunday. In the U16, Alex Pichler from AVS Meran lives up to his role as favorite. Like Bettina Dorfmann from AVS Brixen – winner of the U16F – he is a member of the youth national team. Dorfmann reached the final of the Youth European Cup in Boulder two weeks ago. Libero Feller from Arco Climbing won the U18 category, and Matilda Liu„ Moar (AVS Brixen) won the women’s category. In the U20, the victories went to Davide Zane from Trento Boulder and Evi Niederwolfsgruber from AVS Bruneck. For Niederwolfsgruber it was the last participation in the Junior Cup. Since this was the last competition of the 2022-23 season, the overall rankings in the Junior Cup were determined and these also apply to the qualification for the Italian Youth Championship. For the U16 to U20, the Italian Youth Championship will take place from May 18th to 21st in San Martino di Castrozza. The one for the U10 to U14 youth categories will be held in Bergamo from June 2nd to 4th. A total of 65 South Tyroleans will take part in the Italian Youth Championship.
