First stage of the Italian Cup mastered
Last weekend, the first Italian Cup of the season took place in the Tuscan town of Prato. The expectations for this competition were fully met: successful climbers from all over Italy took on difficult boulders. There were exciting competitions, but unfortunately no South Tyrolean podium place.

The qualifying rounds were already hotly contested. The semi-finals were even more exciting: complex boulders meant that some athletes who had dominated the preliminary rounds were denied a place in the final. The South Tyrolean athletes Matilda Liù Moar (AVS Brixen), Bettina Dorfmann (Climbing Side Roma) and Leonie Hofer (AVS Passeier) as well as the athletes Johannes Egger (AVS Bruneck) and Michael Piccolruaz (Fiamme Oro) were able to face these challenging boulders.
Only Leonie Hofer climbed into the women's final. With a lot of strength and skillful climbing technique, she reached 4th place. The winning places went to Irina Daziano, Stella Giacani and Francesca Matuella.
Although there were no South Tyrolean athletes in the men's final, it remained exciting until the end: Niccolò Sartirana climbed to third place and Davide Marco Colombo to second place. The gold medal went to Mattia Salvatore.
All of the young climbers at the Italian Cup performed strongly. Also taking part in the preliminary rounds were the South Tyrolean athletes David Grasl (AVS Passeier), Fritz Engele (AVS Meran) and David Piccolruaz (AVS Meran), as well as the athletes Kathrin Mock (AVS Bozen), Charlotte Ladurner (AVS Meran), Alina Benazzi (AVS Meran), Vanessa Atz (AVS St. Pauls), Nadia Insam (AVS Meran), Emma Benazzi (AVS Meran), Miriam Amelie Peer (On Sight SSD) and Veronika Cagol (AVS St. Pauls).
After this successful debut, we can look forward to the second stage of the Italian Cup, which will take place on February 22nd and 23rd in Mozzate, near Lake Como.
