Again: Paez is the Dolomiti Superbike king

On Saturday, last year's Colombian winner, who will celebrate his 41st birthday on Monday, triumphed in this marathon classic for the 5th time. At first, other racers were in the lead over the 123-kilometer distance with an altitude of 3400 meters. At almost half the distance the South American was in 6th place, 2 minutes behind Juri Ragnoli from Brescia.

At Haunold, after a race lasting 3 hours, Paez had halved the gap and was driving in a strong chasing group that included, among others, Martin Stosek from the Czech Republic, Villandro's Fabian Rabensteiner and the Azzurri Diego Rosa and Lorenzo Samparisi.

As has often been the case with the Dolomiti Superbike, the die was cast on the Plätzwiesen, where Paez made the decisive attack and was able to gain almost a minute on the chasing group. He subsequently defended this lead and crossed the finish line as the winner after 4:37.39 hours. Fabian Rabensteiner won the sprint for second place, narrowly leaving Martin Stosek behind. The man from Villandro put everything on one card on the last descent and ultimately won by a razor-thin margin.

Adelheid Morath celebrates a start-to-finish victory Adelheid Morath prevailed in the women's elite class, which covered a medium distance of 85 km with an altitude difference of 2360 meters. The 38-year-old from Stegen in the Black Forest took full risks and built up a lot of steam at the front. The German, who was one of the favorites as the reigning European champion, gradually increased her lead and won the 28th edition of the South Tyrolean classic with a time of 3:46.04 hours.

Agnes Tschurtschenthaler surprisingly took second place. The Sesto rider did not start with the elite riders, but ten minutes later with the field. With a net time of 3:52.39 hours, the former world-class track and field athlete beat the top bikers and also benefited from a “detour” that Morath’s pursuers had to take because they had missed a turnoff. Third place went to Costanza Fasolis from Turin, who also rushed forward because athletes like last year's winner Claudia Peretti took a wrong turn. Fasolis “finished” in 3:53.02 hours.

In the men's race, the winner of the 85 km is Lorenzo Trincheri. The U23 rider from Liguria won with a time of 3:17.32 hours and relegated Christian Cominelli (Brescia/3:18.47 hours) and the Belgian Roel Paulissen (3:20.26), who lives in Antholz, to the places of honor.

A South Tyrolean victory over 60 kilometers The 28th Dolomiti Superbike also featured the classic distance of 60 kilometers and 1570 meters in altitude. Klaus Fontana from Olang triumphed here for the men, for whom the stopwatch stopped after 2:21.07 hours. Second place went to an Austrian biker, Daniel Webhofer from Strassen, while Benjamin Schwingshackl from Gsies was happy about third place (2:22.28). In the women's category, Poland's Anna Urban repeated her victory from last year. This time the 43-year-old from Lodz won in 2:59.09 hours and stayed just under the magical 3-hour mark. Two South Tyroleans, namely Daniela Brugger (Toblach) and Hannah Wiesthaler (Innichen), completed the podium. As the winner of the 123 km women's distance, Greta Recchia from Fondi entered the annals of the 28th Dolomiti Superbike.

Bad accident The Dolomiti Superbike was overshadowed by a serious accident. According to initial information, a race participant from Italy fell on his mountain bike on Eggerberg on the Römerweg between Gsies and Dobbiaco. The 60-year-old suffered life-threatening internal injuries and several broken bones (see report on STOL) .
