For the Gsies native, the appearance in the Olympic cross-country race was of particular importance: Due to an injury sustained in June 2025, the 29-year-old had missed large parts of the previous season, and her last World Cup race was about eleven months ago.
At the season opener in South Korea, Seiwald immediately impressed again, finishing in 20th place – a position she was also in before her injury. In the preceding weeks, she had already achieved strong results in competitions such as the MTB French Cup, and now she demonstrated her abilities once more on the biggest stage. And she did so under difficult conditions: the athletes faced persistent rain and slippery descents, with some climbs even requiring them to be tackled on foot.
Swiss woman celebrates double victory – Corvi triumphs
The victory went to Switzerland's Sina Frei, who had already been unbeatable in the short track. Behind the Swiss skater came Jenny Rissveds (Sweden, +0:26 minutes) and Madigan Munro (USA, +0:28). Martina Berta was the best Italian in fifth place (+1:18). In the men's race, the victory also went to Switzerland: Dario Lillo prevailed over Luca Martin (France, +1:46) and Charlie Aldridge (Great Britain, +2:39). Filippo Fontana was Italy's best athlete of the day, finishing sixth (+3:18).In the U23 cross-country race, Elian Paccagnella from Bolzano had to settle for 27th place. However, there was cause for celebration in the women's race: Valentina Corvi left her competitors in the dust, triumphing with a remarkable lead of 3:28 minutes over Elina Benoit from Switzerland. The World Cup continues from May 22nd to 24th in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
