Tour of the Alps: De Marchi wins longest stage

Alessandro De Marchi won the second stage of the Tour of the Alps 2024 over 190,7 km from Salurn to Stans.

The 37-year-old veteran from Friuli, who drives for the Jayco Alula team, won the longest section of this year's five-day tour from the south of South Tyrol via the Brenner Pass to Stans in North Tyrol after a solo ride.

Behind De Marchi, the North Tyrolean local hero Patrick Gamper from the German Bora team took second place. Simon Pellaud from Switzerland completed the podium in third place.

The overall leader remains the Norwegian Tobias Foss from the Ineos team, who won the opening stage from Neumarkt to Kurtinig on Tuesday.

Race day three is on the program on Wednesday with start and finish in Schwaz over 124,8 km. The next day the Tour of the Alps returns to South Tyrol when it travels from Laives to Borgo Valsugana (141,3 km).
