Before the Pyrenees, another sprinter wins

Professional cyclist Jasper Philipsen has won the 13th stage of the 111th Tour de France.

The Belgian won the mass sprint on Friday after 165,3 kilometers from Agen to Pau, ahead of his compatriot Wout van Aert and the German Pascal Ackermann. For the sprinters, it was the penultimate chance for a daily victory in view of the upcoming Pyrenees stages.

Cycling star Primoz Roglic dropped out before the stage as a result of his crashes in the previous days. There are currently three promising candidates for the Tour victory. Tadej Pogacar remains in the yellow jersey and leader of the overall standings. The Slovenian is 1:06 minutes ahead of the Belgian Remco Evenepoel. Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is 1:14 minutes behind.

On Saturday, the professional cyclists will be racing in the high mountains of the Pyrenees. The first of two tough climbs over the weekend will feature two top-category mountain classifications on the 151,9-kilometer route from Pau to Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d'Adet. The Tour classic, Col du Tourmalet, is one of the challenges awaiting them.
