Giro delle Dolomiti: There's no stopping any longer anyhow

They were the fastest on the timed section from Penia to the Fedaia Pass. The fifth and final stage is on the program on Friday, with the participants going to the Salten.

The cyclist from Marktoberdorf (Bavaria) completed the 7,2 kilometers and 499 meters in altitude from Penia to the Fedaia Pass in 24.38,45:35 minutes and increased her lead in the overall ranking by another five minutes. "I'm very satisfied. In the middle part of the chrono, the top men's cyclists set a high rhythm and left me behind. But I'm very happy that I was able to keep up with them for half the route. I really like today’s stage, the Dolomites are beautiful, a dream,” said the XNUMX-year-old at the finish.

Behind her, Carola Skarabela (Team Alè Germany) came second again (29.49,84). The German was almost 50 seconds ahead of the Israeli Yifat Safriel. Just over a minute later, German Susanne Lummer (Team Alè Deutschland) reached the finish eleven seconds ahead of her compatriot Christine Schwenk (31.03,31).

Mazzurana wins and Albecker shortens In the men's race, the German Florian Albecker was the first to reach the finish line at Lake Fedaia (21.25,42:15 minutes), but the fastest time was achieved by an Italian. Luca Mazzurana was 21.10,87 seconds faster than Albecker and thus secured the day's victory. Mazzurana, who lives in Sweden, needed 21.38,86:XNUMX minutes from the chrono start in Penia to the reservoir under the Marmolada. Iraitz Goñi Diaz took third place with a time of XNUMX:XNUMX minutes.

Although he didn't win the day, Albecker was still happy. The cyclist from the RV Lichterfelde-Steglitz team reached the finish line almost half a minute ahead of overall leader Daan Vermeulen (he came sixth), thus reducing his gap in the overall ranking to less than a minute. After the timed section, we had lunch at the Fedaia Pass before heading back via the Fassa Valley to the Carezza Pass and via Tiers and Blumau back to Bolzano.

On Friday, the fifth and final stage of the 46th Giro delle Dolomiti takes cyclists to San Genesio, with the climb from Bolzano (10,8 km/922 meters altitude) also being the timed section. The bike caravan then reaches Vöran together and after a short break we continue to Avelengo and then Obermais (Merano). We then return via the Adige Valley to Bolzano, where we have lunch together after 80,9 kilometers and 1347 meters in altitude. The final award ceremony will take place at 14 p.m. at the Bolzano Trade Fair.
