His second coup: Vingegaard again on the tour throne

The 26-year-old rolled to the finish with his teammates on the final stage in Paris on Sunday and, as expected, retained the yellow jersey. In the overall classification, the Dane has a lead of 7.30 minutes over the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar and almost 11 minutes over the Brit Adam Yates.

The 115,5 kilometer final stage, on which the yellow jersey is traditionally no longer challenged, was won by the Belgian Jordi Meeus in the finish sprint ahead of his compatriot Jasper Philipsen. The Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen came third. The red dotted jersey for the best mountain rider was won by the Italian Giulio Ciccone ahead of the East Tyrolean Felix Gall. Philipsen took the green jersey for the best point scorer.

“Of course I am very happy to have won the Tour de France for the second time. It was my big goal this year,” said Vingegaard. He gained the decisive lead in the individual time trial on Tuesday and a day later on the queen stage to Courchevel. Until then it was a duel for seconds with Pogacar.

“This year it was an incredible fight between me and Tadej. It was really hard to crack him,” said Vingegaard. His rival saw Vingegaard's Tour victory as his own weakness on the Courchevel stage, when he lost almost six minutes. “I cracked myself. Nobody else. That was me,” said Pogacar about his “worst performance of all.” The Slovenian was also affected by a broken scaphoid bone suffered in the spring and was unable to prepare ideally for the tour.

With a convertible to the town hall With his victory, Vingegaard also made history: no Dane before him has achieved two overall victories in the Tour de France. The professional cyclist will be welcomed in Copenhagen on Wednesday. The convertible will take you from Kastrup Airport to the Danish capital's town hall.
