Mourning for Merano jockey.

Dominik Pastuszka didn't make it

South Tyrolean horse racing is mourning the death of Dominik Pastuszka, who was declared brain dead after his serious riding accident.

Pastuszka, who comes from Poland and has lived in Merano for years, fell during a horse race in Pisa on Thursday afternoon. He sustained severe head and chest injuries.

The 36-year-old jockey, who has competed in more than 1000 races in his career, was immediately taken to the local hospital and his condition was immediately considered critical. On Friday, Pastuszka was finally declared brain dead. His horse died on the route. Pastuszka leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
