It starts in Merano: the spectacle begins on Saturday

The Grand Prix turf weekend starts with a high-class program on Saturday, September 23rd. From 14.00 p.m. a total of 6 flat and steeplechase races are on the afternoon program.

The Nations Prize (CrossCountry – 6.000 meters – 40.000 euros) has the highest prize money. Six horses take part in the longest test of the Meran racing calendar.

The 2nd group race of the day is the Steeplechase prize (hunting race, 3.900 meters, 45.500 euros) with 47 participants from 6 countries. Top jockeys such as the Czechs Josef Bartos, Lukas Matusky and Jan Kratochvil and the French Hakim Tabet and Benoit Claudic are already in action in the jockey camp on Saturday.

The main race

With a distance of 6.000 meters and many natural obstacles, the Nations Cup is the longest obstacle race in Italy. This year 6 horses will take part in the test. Three of the participants are traveling from the Czech Republic: Broughton, Gap Pierji and Almost Human. The trio is led by Broughton. The 3-year-old gelding has already won the race twice and is once again the favorite this year with Josef Bartos in the saddle. He is accompanied by Gap Pierji. The gelding ridden by Jan Kratochvil has already won a Group 13 test in Meran in the spring.

Almost Human also has a lot of routine. The 3rd participant from the Czech Republic starts the race with Jan Faltejsek. White Wood is taking part in the race for the Rössl Team racing team. The gelding ridden by Dominik Pastuszka has improved steadily this year. Zubiena and Zankala complete the field for Christian Ghiotti and Paolo Favero's training. Both have recently been able to hold their own in cross competitions.

6th Merano Grand Prix for Haflinger horses

As part of the first racing day of the meeting, a Haflinger horse race will also take place for the 1th time. The Merano – Haflinger Grand Prix sees no fewer than 6 of the strongest South Tyrolean Haflinger mares and their local Amazons and riders at the start.
