The South Tyrol Ultrarace is celebrating its anniversary

In exactly 31 days the starting signal will be fired for the anniversary edition of the extreme mountain run along the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps. Trail athletes can let off steam to their hearts' content on one of three different routes with a length of 63 km (3550 hm), 45 km (2750 hm) or 28 km (1880 hm).

Exactly ten years ago today, on July 26, 2013, the South Tyrol Ultrarace was born. That day, after a long period of preparation, the starting signal was given for the much-awaited first edition. A premiere that ended with the victories of Alexander Rabensteiner from Klausen and Annemarie Gross from Sarnen, who lives in Meran. The two South Tyrolean trail legends continued to leave their mark on the extreme mountain running along the horseshoe tour in the heart of the Sarntal Alps in subsequent years and are still the record winners of the popular event: Rabensteiner won a total of four times, while Gross has three triumphs to his name.

Ten years later, the trail event, known far beyond the country's borders, is still very popular. The organizing committee, which is still led by Josef Günther Mair and has essentially remained the same, is offering three routes this year on the last Saturday in August. There is something for every taste on the 63, 45 or 28 kilometers. What all three routes have in common is the fantastic panoramic view in the heart of South Tyrol of the most beautiful and striking mountains in the country.

Participating since the premiere

“We are looking forward to our birthday task, which we have been working towards feverishly for weeks. Preparations for this are in full swing. The nice thing about this tenth anniversary is that a lot of helpers and most of the sponsors were involved in all editions. During this time we have grown together into a large Ultrarace family. They all deserve a big thank you for this. At the same time, new people have continually joined in, whose ideas have ensured the constant development of our trail event,” emphasizes OK President Josef Günther Mair.
