The Ultrarace attracts with a new royal distance

In a month and a half it will be that time again: on Saturday, August 26th, hundreds of trail runners from all over the world will meet again in the Sarntal Alps. Preparations for the big anniversary edition are in full swing.

At the tenth edition of the extreme mountain run along the Horseshoe Tour in the Sarntal Alps, all participants can choose between three different routes with different lengths and levels of difficulty. After the cancellation of the 119 kilometer long original route with an altitude difference of almost 7900 meters for organizational reasons due to a lack of registrations, the wheat will now be separated from the chaff on the newly "drawn" 63 km route with an altitude difference of 3550 meters in South Tyrol's only ultra run.

From the Bolzano basin on Saturday, August 26th, after the starting signal at 6.30 a.m., the route climbs a whopping 2000 meters in one go up to the Rittner Horn, on to the Sarner Scharte and down to the Stöfflhütte, before the descent towards the finish in Sarnthein begins after the Latzfonser Kreuz. This section is new, because over the Getrum Alm it continues on wide forest paths below the Villanderer Berg to Reinegg Castle and, in the last few kilometers, to the main town of Sarnen, where the finishers are welcomed by the enthusiastic audience.

Marathoners and beginners – something for every taste

“We obviously deeply regret the cancellation of the 119 km race, but unfortunately we are still feeling the after-effects of the corona pandemic this year. Enrollments are well below pre-Covid levels and that's why we had to pull the ripcord. We are a voluntary association that works to cover costs. However, this is impossible with current enrollments and unfortunately the trend is not upward. However, we are confident that we will be able to offer the 119 km again next year,” said the organizers.

In addition to the South Tyrol Ultrarace 63K, which is the flagship route in the South Tyrol Ultrarace this year, there will also be the marathon distance this year, which is 45 kilometers long and has an altitude of 2750 meters. For trail beginners, however, the Südtirol Ultrarace 28K is suitable with 1880 meters of climbing. These two routes also begin with the starting signal at Waltherplatz in Bozen, the finish is in Sarnthein.
