FC Südtirol: Everything is at zero

At the region's only professional club, the clocks are turned back to zero. The five defeats in twelve games this season, the loss of victory for six weeks, the 1:4 embarrassment in Salò, 14th place in the table - all of this is shelved. The focus should be solely on the upcoming home game against Lumezzane. The FCS can set the course for a new start. Of course, if things don't go well, he can end up getting much deeper into the mess. However, no one wants to think about that at the moment. Rather, there is a kind of optimism surrounding the team.

The main person responsible for this is Adolfo Sormani, who has been preparing the players for this groundbreaking match since Wednesday. He appeals to exactly those virtues that made the FCS so strong in the previous season. “The team spirit is crucial. “Everyone has to fight for everyone, that’s the only way we can be successful,” the 49-year-old made clear during his first training session. He will make his debut as a head coach in professional football on Sunday.

Sormani reshuffles the cards

In the past few days, Sormani has made it clear to the players that everyone will have a chance with him and that the cards will be completely reshuffled. This only gives a rough idea of the starting lineup for Sunday. At the moment, only goalkeeper Melgrati, central defenders Kiem and Tagliani, midfielder Branca and, in attack, Filehner can be sure of a regular place. In any case, Sormani can rely on all squad players for his debut as FCS coach.

Whoever plays on Sunday, FC Südtirol will be the big favorites in the duel against AC Lumezzane. The Lombards caused a big surprise last matchday with a 1-0 win against promotion hopefuls Pavia, but before that they had gone ten games in a row without a “threesome”. Lumezzane coach Maurizio Braghin is relying on two former FCS players in the upcoming away game, namely defender Mauro Belotti (played 2009 games in white and red in 14) and offensive force Caleb Ekuban (2013/14, 7 games). For the FC Südtirol players, however, this reunion is just a minor detail. Rather, it's about extremely important points, because they are particularly in focus after the sacking of coach Claudio Rastelli. There are no more excuses.
