FC Südtirol: The Drusus Stadium should remain a fortress

“We are willing to make amends for the defeat in Lumezzane. A more than unfortunate situation cost us a point; in my opinion a draw would have been fairer. But that’s football,” said midfielder Francesco Uliano, who wants to get back to winning ways on Sunday.

The last defeat at the Drusus Stadium was on January 29th, when FCS Pergocrema lost 0-1. The local fortress should now also be defended against Carpi. Head coach Vecchi has to do without central defender Massimiliano Tagliani and goalkeeper Matteo Grandi, in addition to the long-term injured Riccardo Bocalon and Jonas Clementi. He had to be substituted last Sunday with a shoulder injury. However, Luca Bertoni and Matteo Timpone are still not completely fit. The use of Richard Gabriel Marcone in goal and Marco Martin and Simone Iacoponi in the full-back positions is certain, while Hannes Kiem, Alessandro Bassoli and Daniel Cappelletti are fighting for the two available places in central defense. Francesco Uliano is set as a playmaker in defensive midfield , Alessandro Furlan, Simone Branca and Francesco Bontà believe they have a chance of winning the remaining two starting positions in midfield. Mame Baba Thiam will form the striker, Alessandro Campo, Hannes Fink, Piergiuseppe Maritato and Riccardo Pasi are in the running for the two winger positions. With a game on Sunday against Carpi, Campo would be playing his 100th competitive game for FC Südtirol.

Carpi has collected seven points in four games so far. After narrowly missing out on promotion last season (defeat in the playoff final against Pro Vercelli), the team from Emilia Romagna has made some interesting new purchases. The 27-year-old Moroccan Rachid Arma was acquired as a striker. He recently scored 18 goals for Spal and also donned the jerseys of Torino, Cittadella and Vicenza in Serie B. The beefy attacker is supported in attack by former Spezia player Andrea Ferretti or Mehdi Kabinett. Raffaele Bianco (formerly at Modena, Bari, Piacenza and Juventus) and Romeo Papini, who has Serie B experience, will play in midfield.
