Atalanta storms into the Champions League

Atalanta secured a place in the Champions League with a 2-1 victory over AS Roma two games before the end.

In an intense encounter in Bergamo, Ademola Lookman gave "Dea" an early lead with a precise finish. However, Roma equalized after half an hour, headed home Bryan Cristante from a Soulé cross. Atalanta dominated the first half with several clear chances, but were repeatedly denied by the impressive Mile Svilar in goal for the visitors.

The game initially became more evenly matched in the second half, until Ibrahim Sulemana scored the winning goal with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area. Roma had previously had a penalty disallowed after VAR intervention. The win marks Atalanta's fifth Champions League appearance in seven years. Roma's 19-match unbeaten run ends, and the race for a European berth remains open.
