In the future against the FCS: Serie A village club is relegated

On the penultimate matchday of Serie A there was a lot of excitement in the table cellar. As a result, another relegated team has now been determined, which will compete with FC Südtirol next season.

The penultimate matchday of Serie A took place on Whit Sunday today. Shortly before the end of the season things got very exciting again, not at the top of the table as usual - Inter have long been champions - but in the relegation battle. Many eyes were directed towards Sassuolo, where the Neroverdi were playing in a direct duel against Cagliari for relegation - with the better end for the guests, who can now hope to stay in the top Italian league.

The Sardinians won 2-0 against Sassuolo, which means Cagliari is in 14th place in the Serie A relegation battle (36 points) - three points ahead of Empoli, which is currently in the first relegation spot. The fate of the islanders will be decided on the final day of the match, with their opponents being Fiorentina, which is itself fighting for a place in European football.

However, this result also meant that the small club from the municipality of Sassuolo with around 40.000 inhabitants had to move into the second division. Matteo Prati (71.) and Gianluca Lapadula (90+1.) sealed the fate of the Neroverdi with their goals for Cagliari, who have had to return to Serie B in the top Italian league for 11 years.

5 clubs are fighting to stay in Serie A

Therefore, FC Südtirol now knows another competitor with whom it will have to duel in the coming season. With Salernitana, another relegated team had been certain for a long time, while the clubs from Empoli, Udinese, Hellas Verona, Frosinone and Cagliari are still fighting for a place outside the three relegation places. It could also be strange if two teams were tied in 17th place after the last matchday, because then the last relegated team would be determined in a playoff.

Cesena, Juve Stabia and Mantova with Val Gardena's David Wieser are already confirmed as Serie C promoted teams and will also face the white-reds next season. They also have a chance South Tyroleans Simone Zanon and Emanuele Zuelli, who dream of promotion with Carrarese in the playoffs.

Inter and Lazio play a draw

Scudetto winners Inter and Lazio played out a 1-1 draw in Milan later that evening. Lazio took the lead in the 32nd minute with a goal from Daichi Kamada, while the fashion city side equalized late in the second half through Denzel Dumfries in the 87th minute. Despite numerous chances and dominance in the game, the Nerazzurri found it difficult to get the ball over the line, as the capital city team impressed with strong defense and good goalkeeping.
