In an initially tough but ultimately highly intense encounter at their home stadium, San Siro, Milan beat Bologna FC 3-1 on Friday evening. After falling behind shortly after halftime, substitute Santiago Gimenez turned the game around with a brace, while Christian Pulisic added a temporary lead. The victory gave the Rossoneri a small hope of Champions League qualification, although their rivals will have to make some serious mistakes to achieve this.
After an uneventful first half in which neither team had any clear chances, the game picked up significantly after the break. Bologna initially took the lead through Riccardo Orsolini in the 52nd minute – a goal that briefly put the home side under pressure.

But Milan coach Sergio Conceição proved to have a lucky touch: Gimenez's substitution completely changed the momentum of the match. The Mexican striker equalized just a few minutes later, thus beginning the turnaround. In the 71st minute, Pulisic gave the Rossoneri the lead with a tap-in, before Gimenez completed his brace in the closing stages to make it 3-1.
For Bologna, the defeat is doubly bitter: The loss of a point widens the gap to the Champions League places. Milan, on the other hand, also gave Juventus, Roma, and Lazio a boost in the tight battle for European spots, while now hoping for their own.
