FCS is warned: Memories are being rekindled.

On Tuesday evening, FC Südtirol faces an away match against Reggiana. This kicks off a four-game run that could hardly be more important.

“There is definitely a touch of melancholy,” admitted Silvio Merkaj at the press conference after the 1:1 against league leaders Venezia "That was one of our best games; we had many chances. But we also have to keep our feet on the ground, keep working, and continue to sacrifice ourselves like we have been doing." The striker doesn't want to be blinded by Saturday's point in front of the home crowd. After all, there's a goal to achieve.

What does this look like? While FCS currently sits ninth in the Serie B table with 34 points, just four points behind Cesena in the first playoff spot, avoiding relegation remains the top priority. They currently hold a seven-point cushion above the relegation zone, but a dip in form could quickly change that. Few clubs embody this warning better than their upcoming opponent.

Relegation battle? Now it's crunch time!

The duel with Reggiana (Tuesday, from 20.00 p.m. in the SportNewsThe live ticker brings back a special memory for the Red and Whites. On September 27th, South Tyrol celebrated their second win of the season against the club from Emilia-Romagna after a promising start to the campaign – a victory that would not be followed by another three points for a long time. To be precise: After the 3-1 win over Reggiana, FCS went a full 13 games without a win and slid further and further down the table.

This period of weakness was by no means expected at the time. Therefore, Merkaj was right to outline the strategy at the press conference: "The game against Venezia was important and brought us closer to our goal. Now we continue and concentrate on the next match." This match also marks the start of a crucial four-game stretch in the fight to avoid relegation.

FCS facing crucial four-goal run

Reggiana (14th/29 points) is a direct competitor. In the following matchdays, FCS will only face teams from the bottom half of the table. The Red and Whites will have to play Virtus Entella (18th/25), Pescara (20th/21), and Avellino (13th/30). If Merkaj and his teammates continue their winning streak (18 points in nine games), they should hardly have to worry about relegation after this period. However, the victory over Reggiana in the first half of the season also shows how quickly such luck can vanish.
