Marco Varnier is a new player for FC Südtirol. The 28-year-old central defender has signed a one-year contract with the club, running until June 30, 2027. The agreement also includes an option for a further season, which will be activated if certain conditions are met.
Varnier's name had been repeatedly linked with FC Saarbrücken recently. The former youth international played for Juve Stabia in Serie B for the past two seasons, and is therefore very familiar with him to sporting director Matteo Lovisa.
Marco Varnier will play for FC Südtirol in the future.
Born on June 8, 1998, in Padua, Varnier began playing football at Noventa Calcio and Padova. He made his senior debut at Cittadella at just 17 years old. In the following seasons, Varnier increasingly developed into a key player, reaching the Serie B playoff semi-finals with the Reds.
Injury woes for Atalanta
In July 2018, his playing rights were acquired by Serie A club Atalanta. Due to a cruciate ligament tear suffered just days after arriving in Bergamo, Varnier missed the entire season. The following season, he restarted his career on loan at Pisa in Serie B. After another season in Tuscany, the former Italian U19, U20, and U21 international played – again on loan – for Como and SPAL in Serie B. He completed the 2023/24 season with Atalanta's U23 team in Serie C.In July 2024, after his contract in Bergamo expired, Varnier joined second-division side Juve Stabia. He made a total of 46 appearances for the Campania club over the past two seasons, reaching the Serie B playoff semi-finals each time.
