FCS vs. Sampdoria: “We face a team rich in tradition”

On Saturday, a particularly prestigious home game will take place in the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano. FC Südtirol will host the traditional club Sampdoria in the 26th matchday of Serie B.

After two convincing victories against Frosinone and Reggiana, FC Südtirol suffered a 3-1 defeat at promotion hopefuls Cremonese last weekend. "The team is in good physical shape and reacted to the defeat in Cremona with great maturity, without losing confidence," explains Fabrizio Castori.

Sampdoria started the current championship with great ambitions of promotion, but have had difficulties living up to this role. Leonardo Semplici is the third coach on the sidelines, after Andrea Pirlo and Andrea Sottil were previously at the helm. However, with seven points from the last three games, the Blucerchiati seem to be gaining momentum.

A well-known offensive department

Particular caution is required around the two top scorers Massimo Coda and Gennaro Tutino, who is not completely fit. In addition, Sampdoria has strengthened its squad during the winter break, adding attacking players M'Baye Niang and Rémi Oudin, who have already played in Serie A. Giuseppe Sibilli and goalkeeper Alessio Cragno also provide additional quality. "We are ready to face a strong and traditional team like Sampdoria - with the firm belief that we can achieve a positive result," said the coach.

There is positive news in terms of personnel: Both Luca Belardinelli and Andrea Masiello have recovered from their injuries. "Both players will be part of the team tomorrow. As always, however, I will not announce the starting line-up yet. The first to know will be my players, and only 90 minutes before kick-off. Otherwise, some of the players will certainly lack the necessary tension that you need before a football match," said the 70-year-old.

For captain Fabian Tait, the match against Sampdoria comes too early, but he could already be available again in the coming games.
