The FCS has a new Primavera coach

FC Südtirol announces that Matteo Abbate will take over the technical management of the Primavera 2 team.

Matteo Abbate, born on 21 August 1983 in Orbetello in the province of Grosseto, is a former professional footballer with around 150 appearances in Serie B, six in Serie A and over 100 in Serie C. He received his football training in the youth sector of Piacenza and then played for Ancona, Gallipoli, Hellas Verona, Pro Vercelli, Cremonese, Pavia and Pro Piacenza, among others. He has also worn the shirt of the Italian U20 national team.


Abbate began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Vigor Carpaneto in Serie D. He then gained valuable experience in the youth ranks of Monza before coaching the Primavera teams of Alessandria and Piacenza. In February 2023, he was promoted to head coach of the first team of Piacenza in Serie C, which marked his first experience in the professional sector. Last season, he led the fortunes of Pergolettese in the A division of Serie C.

The new coaching staff of FC Südtirol's Primavera team is completed by Diego Montecchio as assistant coach, Nazareno Petrichiutto as athletics coach, Salvatore Misiano as goalkeeping coach, Sarah Vitale as physiotherapist and Stefano Rizzioli and Alfred Bahaj as team managers. All members of the coaching staff are long-standing and experienced employees of FC Südtirol.
