Totally crazy victory: What a start, FC Südtirol!

FC Südtirol started its third Serie B season on Saturday evening against Modena - and offered its fans a memorable match. The 2-1 victory over the team of former FCS coach Pierpaolo Bisoli is one of the most spectacular things the White-Reds have offered in three years of Serie B. The reason for this was a totally crazy finish.

For a long time, everything pointed to a draw at the Drusus Stadium, as the score was 90:1 after 1 minutes. But then extra time began - and the "Finale Furioso". First, it was two FCS jokers who made the arena filled with more than 3.500 fans shake. Fabian Tait, who is not yet fully fit after muscular problems and was therefore only substituted on, sent a first-class cross into the middle, where Matteo Rover - the unlucky injury victim of last season - came rushing in and headed in to make it 2:1 (90th +1).

The winning goal? That's what everyone in Bolzano was probably thinking. But Modena made the impossible possible and equalized with the very last action of the game. After a cross, Antonio Palumbo was completely free at the far post, scored to make it 2-2 and then celebrated provocatively towards the FCS bench.

Here Matteo Rover scored the winning goal.

But the playmaker had celebrated too soon. Referee Mario Perri received a tip-off from the video assistant about a possible offside position. Several minutes, which felt like hours, passed before Perri finally realized on the monitor: The goal was actually preceded by a very slight offside position - and of all people, by ex-FCS defender Giovanni Zaro, who was involved in the goal scene.

While the celebrations at FC Südtirol knew no bounds, the disappointment at Modena and coach Pierpaolo Bisoli was huge. It was certainly a football festival that the White and Reds delivered on Saturday evening. Also because they played really well at times. The three points may have been a bit of luck, but in the end they were deserved.

The highlights Dream start Not even six minutes have been played and the Drusus Stadium is already on its feet. A wonderful free kick from Daniele Casiraghi is headed into the net with great force by the 1,74 meter tall Alessandro Mallamo. First shot on goal, first goal! Out of nowhere FC Südtirol clearly dominates the game, but suddenly Modena equalizes. Antonio Palumbo plays his colleague Klesi Bozhanaj free in a tight space, who remains ice-cold in front of Giacomo Poluzzi. The FCS defense around new signing Luca Ceppitelli was too passive here (40'). Unfassbar Nothing happens for a long time in the second half, but the extra time becomes pure madness. First Matteo Rover scores after Fabian Tait's cross to make it 2-1 (90th+1), then Modena manages to equalize with the last move (90th+3). After several minutes of waiting, Antonio Palumbo's goal is disallowed for offside.
