Serie C playoffs: Zanon and Zuelli are through

Two South Tyroleans can dream of promotion to Serie B: They and their club survived the first round of the Serie C playoffs.

Simone Zanon and Emanuele Zuelli are playing for Carrarese this year. They were at the forefront of the Serie C championship and have now overcome the first hurdle in the playoffs. Against Perugia, the two South Tyroleans made it into the second round.

Carrarese won the first leg 2-0, with Simone Zanon scoring the goal. In the second leg on Saturday in front of a home crowd, the Serie C club from Carrara suffered a 1-2 defeat, but thanks to an overall score of 3-2, Zuelli, Zanon & Co. are through. The two South Tyroleans were in the starting line-up on Saturday.

In the second round, in which eight teams are still represented, the runners-up from the three districts also take part. Among others, Sassari Torres (with Manuel Fiwickeler) and Avellino (with Lorenzo Sgarbi). Who will face whom will be drawn on Sunday morning. Who of all these teams will ultimately grab the last remaining Serie B ticket will be decided on June 9th after the final.
