A size too big for FC Obermais

FC Obermais suffered their biggest defeat in Serie D on All Saints' Day.

Legnago Salus, who were playing against FC Südtirol in Serie C just a few years ago, were relegated from professional football this summer. After a major overhaul, the team from the province of Verona has now reached Serie D. The third-placed team won 5-1 against FC Obermais on Saturday afternoon in front of a sold-out crowd (around 800 spectators) at the Lahn stadium.

For Obermais, it was their heaviest defeat in their still young Serie D history and only their second ever in front of their home fans. "That was our weakest performance this year. But you also have to say that the opponent was extremely strong today. Now we have to dust ourselves off and move on," explained Obermais legend Michael Höller. SportNews.

Stecher's Premiere

There was some good news, however: 17-year-old Tizian Stecher scored his first Serie D goal on Saturday. The winger was still playing for his hometown club, Mals, in the second amateur league two seasons ago. After an outstanding season in the Oberliga with Partschins, he has made the jump to the semi-professional league. Following a quickly taken free kick by Ghiotti, Stecher spectacularly fired the ball under the crossbar on Saturday.

FC Obermais' next match is next Sunday. The Merano-based team will travel to the Adriatic coast to face Union Clodiense Chioggia, who also played in Serie C last year.
