Relegation sealed: Virtus Bozen has to go to the top league

For weeks it had only been a matter of time. Now it's reality: Virtus Bozen has been mathematically relegated from Serie D and has to play in the top league from next season.

It was a season in which hardly anything came together right from the start. In 31 games there were just three wins and ten draws for the Talferstadt team. Not enough to survive in Italy's fourth highest league. The 2:3 defeat against Adriese has now sealed relegation to the top league.

This is bitter because Virtus Bozen was in a completely different situation a year ago. At the end of the 2022/23 season, the Talferstadt team finished in an outstanding sixth place in Serie D. Now the bitter and unexpected pill of relegation follows.

On Sunday, Virtus Bozen fell behind after just 13 minutes. A free kick from Brugnolo deflected off the wall, making it unstoppable for Pircher. The equalizer for Virtus in the 19th minute. Arnaldo Kaptina received the ball on the left and slammed the ball into the far corner from 20 meters. But the comeback came in the first half: after almost exactly half an hour, Abdalla crossed from the right into the middle. Accursi rose highest and headed the ball into the goal to give Adriese the lead again.

In the second half the guests made everything clear. Gioè only had to maneuver a cross from Martimbianco over the line a few steps from the Virtus goal. In the 76th minute, Virtus revolted. Tschigg crossed from the left into the middle, where Elis Kaptina headed the ball into the goal - 2:3. A few seconds before the final whistle, Busetto's header hit the post after a cross from Osorio. Almost symbolic of the Virtus season so far.

On Wednesday, starting at 15 p.m., the remaining 56 minutes will continue against Portogruaro on the Bolzano Talferwiesen. The game was canceled the Sunday before last due to an injury to the referee.
