The referee can't do it anymore: Virtus game canceled

An absolute curiosity occurred on Sunday in Virtus Bozen's home game in Serie D. The match had to be stopped after half an hour.

The 35th minute of the match between Virtus Bozen and Portogruaro took place on the Bolzano Talferwiesen. A strange scene occurred: referee Davide Rompianesi from Modena sustained a muscle injury. After a break of several minutes it was clear: he couldn't go any further. The game then had to be stopped.

At this point the guests from Veneto were already leading 2-0. The match will therefore be rescheduled at a later date with this score and from minute 35. When is not yet clear.

Virtus is caught off guard

Portogruaro started the game energetically. It only took twelve minutes and the guests took the lead. A cross into the penalty area surprised the Virtus defense and Calcagnotto was able to calmly place the ball into the Virtus box. Virtus tried to react, but the attacks were more than hesitant. In the 18th minute, Zupperdoni broke through on the right and crossed in front of the goal, where Rossi moved towards the middle and gave Morello the second advantage with a remarkable shot.

After around half an hour, the referee stopped the game and sought treatment. Only 5 minutes later, the referee had to withdraw because the injury no longer allowed the game to continue. It is still unclear when the game will continue with the score at 0:2. Only if Virtus turns this game around and wins will the people of Bolzano still have a theoretical chance of staying in the league, otherwise relegation to the top league is sealed.
