Once again a major event, the opening ceremony of the Women's World Cup, gave minorities in the host countries the chance to present themselves. In this context, our columnist Sigi Heinrich also remembers the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and Salt Lake City two years later

It was likeable. The opening ceremony for the Women's Football World Cup in New Zealand was restrained, short and yet impressive. A work of art, almost, that was staged with great sensitivity.
