Europeada: These South Tyroleans are attacking for the title

This summer not only is the big European Championship coming up, but also the Europeada. The South Tyrolean men, peppered with numerous top and regional league players, want to cause a sensation again.

The Europeada, the European Championship for linguistic minorities, has existed since 2008. It has been held four times since then, four times the men's winner was South Tyrol. This series is also scheduled to continue in a month. The fifth edition will take place in northern Germany and Denmark from June 29th to July 7th. The “capital town” of the Europeada is Flensburg, a city in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, on the border with Denmark.

As with every edition, the South Tyrolean men's selection starts the race as favorites. Also because coach Manuel Sullmann's team has concentrated league and regional league power. Oberliga top scorer Alex Pfitscher, exceptional player Martin Ritsch, clipper Jonas Clementi, horse lung Olaf Stark, defensive bulwark Lukas Höller and goalie Patrick Psenner – these are just a few of the well-known names that the South Tyrolean squad has to offer. The team trained for the first time in Rungg on Tuesday.

These are the opponents

The South Tyrol selection will play in the preliminary round against Nordschleswig (Germans in Denmark) and against Rumantsch from Graubünden (Switzerland). The third opponent in the preliminary round, the Crimean Tatars, had to withdraw for political reasons.
