Manuel Scavone, ex-professional in the service of Bozner FC.

Manuel Scavone, what's going on with Bozner FC?

Bozner FC, actually a highly rated team in the top league, suddenly has to worry about staying in the league. The start of the second half of the season didn't bring the desired turnaround either. We spoke to Manuel Scavone about the reasons for this.

Last August, Oberliga club Bozner FC caught the eye of the South Tyrolean football world. With Manuel Scavone, the “Oranges” signed an ex-professional and one of the best local kickers of all time. Because the Talferstadt team also has a solid squad, some people believed that the people of Bolzano could be at the forefront. But the reality is now different: Paolo Goisis' team has to worry about staying in the league.

“The table says we are in the relegation battle,” Scavone sums it up. The 36-year-old from Bolzano, who has played almost 500 professional games in his career and was active in Serie B for years, scored his first goal of the season last Sunday against Vipo Trento with a remarkable overhead kick, but in the end the match ended 2: 4 lost.

The last “threesome” happened four months ago

Bozner FC's last win was on October 8th, and since then there have been eight defeats and one draw. The Talferstädter are in fourth-to-last place in the table, just one point ahead of the relegation zone. “We actually started the championship well, but suddenly things went downhill. We have one of the youngest teams in the league and often play good football. But then we have our five minutes in which we make stupid mistakes - and then they are fatal. The many injuries certainly weren't an advantage for us, we obviously miss a player like Mattia Pareti (ankle injury, editor's note) very much," said Scavone.

At the same time, the ex-professional also confirms: “Before the start of the season, we were definitely not a team that was playing for the title. But we never expected that we would be in this situation now. I have been through a situation like this many times in my career. Now it’s time to grit your teeth and do everything you can to stay in the league.” Will a sense of achievement be achieved on Sunday? Then Rovereto, currently second in the table, will be a guest in Bolzano.

Obermais asks Lana to the derby

From a South Tyrolean perspective, the focus this weekend is on the Meran cattle market square, where FC Obermais welcomes its rivals from Lana. The people of Meran go into the race as clear favorites against the bottom team. Partschins is also facing a landmark game in the relegation hit against Dro.
