South Tyrolean football mourns the loss of a top official

Massimo Cima had dedicated himself to South Tyrolean amateur sport for decades. On Thursday, the board member of the local football association passed away.

For around four months, Massimo Cima had been receiving treatment in the hospital in his hometown of Verona due to serious health problems. In the night between Wednesday and Thursday, the sad news finally came: he had died at the age of 63.

At the beginning of September – just a few days after his sudden admission to hospital – Cima was once again elected to the board of the South Tyrolean Football Association. There he was confirmed as the person in charge of small-field football (Calcio a 5).

The passionate Hellas Verona fan, who was extremely popular in South Tyrol's amateur sports scene, devoted his main attention for decades to women's football, futsal, beach soccer and five-a-side football. He tried with great passion to give these fringe disciplines the attention and importance they needed. Now he leaves a big gap in domestic football.
