There is a new football euphoria in Vipiteno
Amateur football in Vipiteno was virtually at a standstill for some time. In recent years, however, the club's management has created a new project from scratch, which has now resulted in promotion to the 2nd amateur league. But that should only be the beginning.

Last Saturday, FC Sterzing secured promotion to the 5nd Amateur League with a 1-2 home win against Wengen with two game days to go. The Wipptal team dominated the 3rd Amateur League, Group C this year almost at will - Sterzing only suffered one defeat this season. This dates from the first match day in Percha. Since then, Matthias Markart's team has continuously improved.
Two years ago, Markart coached the Ridnaun Valley selection in the state league. In the summer he then took over the reins in the Wipptal capital. Mirko Minzoni is at his side as assistant coach. It was only two years ago that Vipiteno registered a first team again. The new club management has focused on promoting youth work. Now Sterzing is returning to the 8nd amateur league for the first time in 2 years.
1st amateur league as a long-term goal
“We are of course overjoyed. A new football euphoria can be felt in Vipiteno. There were over 400 spectators at the last home game. Otherwise there are usually around 200. We also want to play a proper championship in the 2nd amateur league,” explained sports director Philipp Prantner SportNews-Demand.With this team Sterzing was promoted to the 2nd amateur league. © AFC Vipiteno
Vipiteno has two or three new signings in mind for the summer, but otherwise the club wants to continue to rely on its own youth. The long-term goal of the former national league team is to return to the 1st amateur league. A sleeping giant (the city has almost 7.000 inhabitants) has come to life. In Vipiteno there is not only ice hockey - i.e. the Wipptal Broncos.
