Joachim Degasperi doesn't beat around the bush. "It's not a good moment for us," says the long-time Serie B professional, who has been in charge of the sporting fortunes of the Oberliga club Bozner FC for years. On Monday evening, the Talferstädter parted ways with coach Paolo Goisis. One point from five games, a goal difference of 1:10, and last place in the table: This caused the Orange club management to pull the ripcord.
"We had to send a strong signal," said Degasperi, explaining the move. "We had a difficult year last season, but we were able to save ourselves on the last match day. We had hoped to carry the euphoria into the new season, but we saw that it wasn't going to work," said the ex-professional, who has experienced a number of such situations in his long football career and therefore knows: "In a moment like this, the coach is the weakest link."
“Maybe it will help to have a new face in the cabin.” Joachim Degasperi
Degasperi clearly addresses where the problems currently lie. "We simply can't score goals. On the other hand, the opponent only needs half a chance to score. That was the case on Sunday against Obermais, when we had two great opportunities right at the start but conceded a goal after a scramble," said the 42-year-old, who added: "We hope that the change of coach will have an effect now. Perhaps it will help that there is a new face in the dressing room, because the team has quality, I am still firmly convinced of that."
Degasperi becomes coach for the first time
Degasperi wants to clarify in the next few days who will take over the team in the long term. First of all, the former striker will take on the role of coach himself. "We play against St. Georgen on Wednesday and against Anaune on Sunday, and I will be looking after the team. Of course, we won't be reinventing the wheel these days, it's important to make a difference on a mental level," said Degasperi, who will be acting as coach of a team for the first time. At the same time, he also stressed: "I hope that we can present the new coach at the beginning of next week."Jacopo Marini (left) is stuck at the bottom of the table with Bozner FC. © DLife/LO
Many explosive duels
Otherwise, Wednesday's matchday in the Oberliga has some other exciting matches in store. Among them Partschins against Obermais. This match is not just a neighborhood duel, but also a meeting between two top teams in the championship so far. Obermais is in second place with twelve points, the sensational Partschinser are currently in fourth place with ten points. Two more South Tyrolean duels are coming up: Stegen against Brixen and St. Pauls against Virtus Bozen.Oberliga, 6st matchday (Wednesday, 20 p.m.)
