Max Bertinato welcomes FC Obermais with Olimpia Meran.

State Cup: A thrilling derby in the quarterfinals

The South Tyrolean Cup quarterfinals feature a thrilling clash. Olimpia Merano hosts FC Obermais.

Olimpia Merano has been fighting for years to return to the regional league. The Passerstadt team currently sits second in the 1st Amateur League (Group A) and is locked in a three-way battle for promotion with Gargazon and Kaltern. The Merano team's long-term goal has been the Oberliga for years.

For this reason, Max Bertinato's team has been training four times a week for some time now, which is a real exception in the first amateur league. Last year, Bertinato's team was rewarded with the national cup. This year, Abdenaim En Naimi & Co. will face the derby against FC Obermais, which is on the verge of promotion to Serie D.

The Meraners can also be trusted against the Oberliga leaders, after all they have Brixen was clearly defeated in the round of 16. It will be a real prestige duel and a heated derby, after all, the two clubs are not exactly considered friends.

Last year's finalist, Ahrntal, hosts Partschins, which currently plays in a league this year. SG Schlern, which is in the upper midfield of the 1st Amateur League Group B, is the underdog against Oberliga side St. Pauls. The same applies to Mölten Vöran (3rd Amateur League) against Landesliga side FC Gröden. However, Mölten has strong players in its squad, such as Manuel Mariz, and was relegated completely unnecessarily last year.
