“Special appeal”: The Ahrntal is longing for the final

The two semi-final matches in the state cup will be played tomorrow on Labor Day. The regional league club Ahrntal, among others, is dreaming of the final.

In the league this year, Ahrntal fell somewhat short of expectations. The “Teldra” are currently in 5th place. “There isn’t much at stake for us in the national league this year. That's why the cup is so important for us now. I see the chances as 50:50. Bozner FC obviously has a lot of quality and plays a league higher than us. That’s why we can only win,” said Ahrntal’s sporting director Robert Niederkofler in the SportNews-Conversation.

The last time Ahrntal was in the final, Niederkofler was still a player himself. “That was against Eppan at some point, but it was a long time ago. The fact that we have a home game tomorrow obviously has a special appeal. I hope for many viewers. Most of our players have never been in a semi-final before,” explained the former defensive player.

A place in the cup final would also be the ideal farewell to coach Jürgen Großgasteiger. “We would like to give new impetus in the summer. “That was a joint decision,” said Niederkofler. Großgasteiger, who was already a club icon as a player, could remain with the “Teldra” in a different form – for example as a junior coach. The first team, however, should be taken over by Thomas Ritsch in the future.

This season, in addition to reaching the cup final, Bozner FC is also fighting to stay in the top league. In the other semi-final, Olimpia Meran (1st amateur league) and Latsch (national league) face each other on Wednesday evening.
