St. Georgen pulls the ripcord: the coach has to go

SC St. Georgen has reacted to the sporting decline and fired coach Berndt Mair. The Pusterers announced this on Monday evening.

The Jergina are actually nominally one of the top teams in the Oberliga. But this year St. Georgen really messed up the start of the season. With just 8 points from 8 games, the former Serie D club is fourth from bottom in the table. St. Georgen also has a negative goal difference of 8:12. The 0-2 defeat at Dro on Sunday was probably the last straw.

“We would like to thank Berndt Mair for the work he has done. He has helped improve the team and develop young talent. We wish him all the best for his future,” the club wrote on its website. Last year, Mair took over as coach from Patrizio Morini. In his first season, the former striker led the club to a solid third place - level on points with Tramin.

Now St. Georgen has to look for a new trainer. In the meantime, the previous assistant coach, Kurt Volgger, will take over the head coaching role.
