Rangnick says no! Next basket for Bayern

Ralf Rangnick will not be the coach of FC Bayern. The 65-year-old surprisingly canceled the German record champions - and instead prefers to stay in Austria.

The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) announced on Thursday that Rangnick would remain team leader of the Alpine republic's selection beyond the European Championships in the summer.

First they had BILD-Newspaper reported on Rangnick's cancellation. After the third rejection, the Munich team must continue to look for a successor to Thomas Tuchel.

“I am the Austrian team boss with all my heart. This task gives me incredible joy and I am determined to successfully continue on our chosen path,” said Rangnick in the ÖFB announcement. “I would like to expressly emphasize that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but rather a decision for my team and our common goals. Our full concentration is on the European Championships,” added Rangnick.

Already the third rejection

The Munich team needs a successor for Tuchel, whose contract will be terminated early in the summer. Bayern had already recently canceled Xabi Alonso from champions Bayer Leverkusen and national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

On Tuesday evening after the Champions League game against Real Madrid, the Munich club bosses sounded optimistic, spoke of good negotiations with the former Bundesliga coach and indicated that Rangnick would make a decision shortly. Now Bayern have to keep looking.
