Hummels has to leave BVB – Sahin new coach

Mats Hummels is about to leave Borussia Dortmund. The 35-year-old central defender will not receive an offer for another year in the black and yellow jersey.

His expiring contract will not be renewed, report the Rclock news on Thursday. Hummels, who was not nominated by national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the home European Championship starting on Friday, played for BVB from 2008 to 2016 and since 2019 after his return from FC Bayern Munich.

After the surprising departure of coach Edin Terzic (41), with whom Hummels was recently publicly at loggerheads, this is the second outstanding personnel change at Dortmund. After losing the Champions League final against Real Madrid (0:2), Terzic had asked for the termination of his contract, which was actually due to run until 2025, to which BVB agreed on Thursday. According to media reports, his successor will be former BVB professional Nuri Sahin. BILD reported, the only thing left to do between the 35-year-old and the management is to clarify the final details. The assistant coach will be former BVB professional Sven Bender (35), who, like Sahin, most recently worked alongside Terzic as his assistant.
