Dani Alves is granted temporary release from prison

Almost a month after being sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual aggression, professional footballer Dani Alves has been granted a temporary release from prison.

To do this, Alves would have to pay a deposit of one million euros, the responsible court in Barcelona announced on Wednesday. In addition, the two passports of the 40-year-old Brazilian, who has also had Spanish citizenship since 2005, would be confiscated, it was said. In addition to other requirements, according to the judicial notice, Alves is also not allowed to approach his victim and must report to court once a week.

However, the Brazilian was unable to raise bail within the court's 14.30:XNUMX p.m. deadline for release on Wednesday, according to the newspaper La Vanguardia reported. He asked his compatriot's father, superstar Neymar, to lend him money, the newspaper wrote, citing those close to Alves. A release is expected to take place on Thursday. Only recently did the media in Spain and Brazil report that the convicted man only had relatively little money.

Is there a risk of escape?

Alves' lawyer had applied for release from prison pending a decision by the judiciary to object to the conviction for sexual aggression the day before. The lawyer said her client assured the judges responsible that he would not flee because he believed in the law. At the hearing, the victim's lawyer spoke out against dismissal of the former Barça professional. “There is clearly a risk of absconding,” she told reporters on Tuesday after the hearing.

Alves was sentenced on February 22nd. He also has to pay the victim 150 euros. He had been in custody for over a year before the verdict after a young woman accused him of forcing her to have sex in a toilet at a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 000, 31. During the trial, Alves rejected the allegations. The sexual acts were carried out with the woman's consent.

The 126-time Seleção international, who also played in Europe for FC Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus Turin, was only arrested three weeks after the incident - on January 20 last year - during a visit to Catalonia . Before his arrest, he had been playing for the UNAM Pumas club in Mexico.
