Flick should inherit Xavi at Barca

According to a media report from Spain, Hansi Flick will be the new coach of FC Barcelona.

The Catalan top club will announce the signing of the former national coach on Monday, the newspaper wrote Sports world on Friday. Accordingly, a crucial phone call took place last Wednesday between the 59-year-old and Barça sports director Deco. However, details such as the contract term still need to be clarified. A one-year contract with an option for an extension is being discussed.

Several media outlets had previously reported that Flick was again a hot candidate at the top club. Flick is therefore considered the club's management's favorite if, after an unprecedented back and forth in recent weeks, there should be a separation from the current coach Xavi. However, this separation has not yet been officially confirmed. According to the newspaper, Xavi will also be informed of the decision on Monday.

Barcelona's club legend announced his retirement at the end of this season in January. At this time, Flick was already being considered as a possible successor. The first U-turn followed in April when Xavi, President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco agreed to continue working together until at least 2025.

The 44-year-old world champion from 2010 is now apparently on the verge of elimination again because Xavi's public statements about the club's financial situation and the lack of international competitiveness of his squad are said to have massively angered the Barça management.
What speaks in favor of Flick as a potential successor is that his advisor Pini Zahavi maintains a good relationship with Laporta. He also has a good name in Spain because, as coach of Bayern Munich, he beat FC Barcelona 2020-8 in the quarter-finals on the way to winning the 2 Champions League.
